About UPI MDR Calculator
UPI MDR Calculator is a free, independent tool for Indian shopkeepers, business owners and accountants. When the new UPI MDR rules were announced for 15 October 2026, most explanations were long articles. We built a simple calculator that answers one question instantly: on this payment, how much will I actually receive?
How the numbers are calculated
- MDR is 0.4% of payments above ₹2,000, capped at ₹300 per payment.
- Payments of ₹2,000 or less, and small merchants under ₹1 lakh a month via UPI QR, have zero MDR.
- Railways, telecom, insurance, fuel, utility bills and educational institutions pay a flat ₹5 on payments above ₹2,000.
- Capital market payments (mutual funds, brokers) pay 0.02%, capped at ₹300.
- 18% GST is applied to the MDR amount by default, since MDR is a bank service fee. You can switch this off.
These rules follow the NPCI framework announced on 15 September 2026 and the Department of Financial Services FAQ that explains it. The full explanation is in our guide to UPI charges above ₹2,000.
Keeping it accurate
We update the calculator and guides when rates, exemptions or GST treatment change. Every page shows the date it was last updated (currently 26 September 2026). Your bank or payment provider's statement is always the final word on what you were charged.
